English is Garbage, Don’t be a Grammar Nazi

Let’s Tackle This Head on!

Being an advocate for “proper” grammar is a form of discrimination in its own right. Black people and other P.O.C have different ways of speaking various languages, this is called “vernacular.”

White supremacists took advantage( and still do) of this in voting booths, standardized test systems, and as a way to limit the credibility of Black people in order to make us seem lesser as a way to enforce government based privileges upon the next generations of White people, and then the ones after that.

In other words, commenting on the way someone speaks is just spreading the rhetoric that supremacy has already created. Understand that the way I type or talk isn’t a sign of intelligence, regardless of how intelligent you might think it is.

English is a language, not a measurement of smarts.

Some of us(like myself and many other Black people) speak in quote on quote “proper” English simply because we were born and raised to navigate white spaces where we wouldn’t have any advantages if we couldn’t at least sound better than our Caucasian counterparts.

I could have an IQ of 100 and maintain a form of grammar that many people could see as being perfect.

Communication should be based on ease of understanding, not overtly complex words in which nobody can properly fit into an actual sentence without a thesaurus.

Ebonics(periodt, lit, etc) are legitimate and completely “proper.” Only difference is that they might not be in the Webster’s Dictionary — which has been white-owned and very successful in North America since the 1800s.

You can’t abolish supremacy by policing someone’s vocabulary as it pertains to how “professional” they sound when it comes to a Black person.

Stop allowing White systems to dictate what literary intelligence is, and don’t assume that the person using slang is any less intelligent than the one using their code switching as a method of being able to navigate mass audiences.
